RIVERSIDE:  Senior night is intended to be a special night for athletes and their families.  It’s made all better if the game goes the way of the home school.

Even better if the game clinches a CIF playoff spot for said home team.

King checked off all of the above in 4-2 win over Norco on Thursday in unseasonably hot weather.

The mercury read 93 degrees at kick off but the Wolves seemed not to mind.

“The players were so focused on accomplishing their goal of making the playoffs that the heat was a non-factor to us” said King head coach Todd Mapes.

Sophomore Samuel Addo got the Wolves off to a good start with a goal from a corner kick in the 20th minute.  Miguel Pedro (Jr) and Cole Hughes (Sr) added a goal each right before halftime to put King up 3-1.  Anthony Alvarez (So) finished off the scoring for the night with a second half goal to secure the win.

“I’m so proud of how far we’ve come this year.  We are a completely different team now and are improving every game” said Mapes.

The Wolves are currently in 2nd place and finish the regular season at 1st place Santiago on Tuesday.  From there, it’s on to the CIF playoffs, the 11th time in the last 12 years the Wolves have trod that hallowed path.
