Girls Varsity Soccer · A REBOUNDING WIN TAKES KING TO CIF PLAYOFFS

April 29, 2021

NORCO: King (9-3, 6-3) traveled to Norco on Thursday to take on the Cougars. They returned with a 5-0 shutout and even better, a ticket to continue playing on into the CIF Championship rounds.

Kaylee Hauck started the scoring 3 minutes into the game when she converted a pass from Kylie Tusant to make it 1-0.Nine minutes later Kyra Murphy beat three players to go one on one with the goalie and found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Four minutes after that, Hauck assisted on Brianna Nesser’s goal to make the score 3-0.

The scoring continued to come rapidly, as Murphy found Hauck open, executed the pass and which Hauck drove in to make it 4-0 at half.  Tusant said after the game, “We came out strong, scoring in the first five minutes and finished the game with the same intensity.”

Scoring was completed in the 58th minute when Murphy was fouled in the box and Nesser was able to make the penalty kick.

The team’s defense was solid throughout, as a shutout would imply.  “Our defense was composed and worked well together” Smith noted.

This was a big game for King as the victory ensured they will make the playoffs. “I am so happy for my seniors who have not had an opportunity to play in CIF playoffs during their time at King” said head coach Dave Smith, referring the quarantined shortened 2020 season and the absence of CIF play prior to that.

It was also a gratifying afternoon as King admittedly struggled last week with poor play and injuries.  “I was very proud of how well the girls have played this week” Smith said.  “Now we just need to rest up all of the hurt players and get them ready for playoffs.  I have four starters who are in desperate need of rest and recovery.”
