RANCHO CUCAMONGA: Take the east-west corridor along the San Gabriel mountain range and any of those cities along the 215 freeway will greet you with a wind-swept hello.
Of course, the opposite could be said as well, and it was a hearty wind-swept “good bye” that lingered in the boys tennis team as they headed home Tuesday night having been defeated handily by the Los Osos Grizzlies.
“The guys had a hard time adjusting to the wind” said Coach Harris. Junior Collin Peters added, “there was a lot we did not execute on this afternoon that we should’ve, but the harsh wind did play a factor.”
Neither Harris nor Peters were making excuses. Los Osos played with greater consistency and a quality that, coupled with King’s “lack of preparedness”, in Peters’ words, contributed to their ultimate 12-6 win over the Wolves.
That said, there were some highlights. Junior Austin Harvill won 2 of his 3 sets in singles and senior James Kim and freshman Ronith Sreeram won 2 of their 3 sets in doubles. “They came up big for us today” Peters said of his teammates.
“We’ll take this loss into practice to work on elements of our game” Harris noted. The calendar is a bit in their favor as well, with over a month left until the CIF playoffs begin.
