ML King Athletic Director Chip George extended his gratitude to Pat McCarthy, the head football coach at Martin Luther King High School as the veteran coach has resigned the position he held from 2017.
“During his tenure at MLK, Coach McCarthy has lead his program with integrity while stressing the PEAK principles” George said. “He has helped to develop student athletes that were successful in the classroom and on the gridiron. His coaching career at MLK is highlighted by a Riverside Hall of Fame Scholarship winner, numerous BIG VIII All-Academic team award winners, and on the gridiron. Coach McCarthy will continue to teach here at MLK.”
McCarthy, who has had a long career of coaching at a handful of locations, said, “I would like to thank the student athletes, teachers and administration for their unwavering support for the football program the past three years. Best of luck for the future and looking forward to seeing these young men develop into outstanding adults. Go Wolves!”
The football head coaching position has been advertised. “We will conduct the best possible search during these extreme times” George said. “We look forward to hiring a coach that will continue to stress the importance of academic excellence that a school like MLK stresses, with a work ethic that helps build young adults into successful members of our community. We thank Coach McCarthy for all of his hard work and dedication to the students of MLK. We wish him only the best in his future endeavors.”
