In pool play in the Big Daddy Tournament, the boys basketball team got their season going with a win over Grand Terrace, 70-61. The Wolves were up at the quarter, 22-18 and never looked back.
Kenny Clayton had 18 points behind the leading scorer, David Mitchell who put up 21 to go with 8 rebounds. Sean Rowland finished with 12 points and 3 rebounds.
“We had a good second quarter” said King coach Mark Vanta. “Defending, holding them (Grand Terrace) to 11 points and executing offensively.”
King had a pre-game goal of holding their opponent to 10 points or less per quarter so they got close.
“We learned a few things defensively that will help us down the road” Vanta added.
And perhaps that’s the biggest thing for Vanta and head coach Jeff Dietz. Their young team is in need of “varsity experience” and this game, coupled with the win, was just what they were hoping to get.
