RIVERSIDE: Presiding on their home courts, King Varsity Tennis pulled off an 11-7 victory over Division 1, Los Osos Thursday.
Katie Lucius led the charge in singles with a 3-0 sweep. Samantha Quezada and Bella Doup-Conner each added 2 additional wins to the team score. In doubles, Jaslyn Gines with partner Erica Zomalt and Seeta Patel with partner Thais Olvera each brought in 2 games, bringing the team total to 11 over Los Osos’ 7. The Lady Wolves are now 4-1 in non-league play.
Coach Gagnon was pleased with the play of her charges, especially the growth that her younger players are showing at the varsity level. “They are showing improved maturity on the court, especially our “newbies” to the Varsity starting line-up.” Gagnon said.
The team started weakly in Doubles play, but they rallied as a team and brushed off a shaky 1st round to roar back and fight hard for every game in rounds 2 and 3.
“There was no giving up today” Gagnon said, as the Lady Wolves refused to roll over and instead moved to the offensive side of things and rallied each other to play their best tennis.
“The team is really becoming assertive and is showing improved determination and sheer grit in their play and approach to some adversity” she added.
“When pressed, they rise up, as a team, and return with a renewed sense of purpose and lift their level of play to achieve their ultimate goal…to win!” she said excitedly.
And win they did. Again.
