On Tuesday September 3rd the Lady Wolves hosted Murrieta Mesa Rams in a non-league match.
The Lady Wolves fell in 4 sets, 21-25, 22-25, 25-13, 23-25. It was a gritty match played by both teams.
Set 1 King came out a little slow and Mesa jumped out to a 7-2 lead. The Lady Wolves battled back by strong play from Kaili Vandenberg, Jaden Grova and Avery Percival to tie the game at 20. The Rams won the set as King couldn’t overcome double digit errors.
Again the Rams came out strong in set two building an 8-0 lead. King showed its toughness and battles back to take the lead 22-20 behind strong serving, defense and 3 kills each by Vandenberg and Myra Safo.
The error bug bit the Wolves again and the Rams took set 2. The 3rd set was a lightning fast start by King as Isabella Cisneros served up 4 aces and Delaney Bushay chipped in 3 kills. They Lady Wolves controlled the ball and the set to win in convincing fashion 25-13.
The 4th set was again another slow start by the Lady Wolves as they went down 4-0 but battled back to take a 10-8 lead as Breonne Benoit tallied 10 digs in the set. This was the highest contested set as the lead tic-tocked back and forth. Two big blocks by the Rams led them to a 2 point victory and the match. Kaili Vandenberg lead the team in kills with 10. Breonne Benoit had 9 kills, 2 aces and a team high 24 digs. Avery Percival had 4 aces and 22 digs.
Senior Captain Daniela H’Orvath said,”We played hard tonight but we have to find a way to have more grit at the end of games so we can finish”.
Coach Duncan is optimistic about his team, “We committed to being a better defensive team this year and it really shows as we dug 82 balls tonight. Our team is playing the right way but we are learning how to play together in the tight moments and finding out who will finish for us”.
