King Volleyball Alumni Match is one of the long traditions that has been running for over a decade. A custom started by Coach Gene Krieger and Sondra Lough. The match is not just a game but also a time for Alumni to reunite with fellow teammates and the school. The tradition is what keeps Alumni connected with the legacy they have left behind. These former athletes have created memories and continue their friendship after high school.
This year we had a tremendous turnout with sixteen girl alumni (2012-2019) and eighteen boys from (2015-2018). The night was full of fun and laughs. For the varsity girls’ volleyball program coached by Kyle Duncan, the match was an opportunity to get ready for the fall season. For the girls’ alumni team, it took a while to get in a rhythm playing next to each other. Some of the alumni girls from the nine-year span had never met before. The first set went to the varsity girls and the alumni took the second. The third set was an exciting match ending with varsity 15-13. For the varsity girls to win was exciting since they lost so many senior this year.
For the boys alumni match, it provided the boys varsity team to meet their new coach, Corey Kleven and have him on the sidelines. Coach Corey Kleven is not new to volleyball with both his daughter currently playing on varsity, Alexa Kleven and alumni Brad Kleven (2017). It was a fun match to coach and have Brad play against his father, said Coach Lough. The match went the distance, going three sets. The outcome went to varsity 15-13.
