Boys Varsity Tennis · SPORTSMANSHIP IS THE STORYLINE IN NORCO MATCH

RIVERSIDE:  Sadly, at times, blowout wins by a team give rise to arrogance and showboating.  A lopsided score can give one a lopsided sense of one’s talent.

Yesterday was an 18-0 win by the boys tennis team against Norco High School, but it was also graciously an opportunity for both King and Norco to display great sportsmanship.

Coach Shaun Harris would have it no other way.

“The guys had a lot of fun competing with the players from Norco” he said, using with intent the word “with” in his description of the match.

The score allowed him to give his second-string a chance to play, along with younger players needful of varsity experience.

It also “let the starters work on some skills for the league tournament in 2 weeks” Harris said.

“The 18-0 score line is a great result” Harris said, “but it doesn’t capture the sportsmanship, mutual respect, and competitive play that was shown by both teams”

And by any measure, that’s the better story line.
