RIVERSIDE: After a successful trip to the Bay Area over Christmas break, the Wolves returned home to resume the Big 8 League Season and defeated Corona High by a score of 50-46.
“We won this game with aggressive, disciplined defense and aggressive, disciplined offense” said coach Mark Vanta.
The game plan was to focus on the Panthers’ best player and Jon Tchengang and Josh Dietz executed it to perfection. “They made it amazingly difficult on him all game – sticking to the game plan , very disciplined- good habits” Vanta said.
Offensively, King was running well, extending Corona’s defense and taking advantage of their overplay.
We used our quickness off the dribble to attach close outs and rotations” Vanta said.
Austin Tolsen led all scorers with 12 points and three rebounds. Duwan Franklin had 10 rebounds while Josh Dietz snagged 8. Sean Rowland scored 9 points. Jon Tchengang contributed 7 points and 6 rebounds.
When Corona tried to respond to that tactic, King shifted and executed their continuity offense. In the end, the Wolves knocked down enough free throws to seal the win.
“Good habits create good results” Vanta said, perfectly describing not just known truth, but a balanced, well played game by the home team.
King is now 11-9 overall and 2-1 in league.
