With the Big 8 League season set to open up on Friday, King finished their pre-season, pre-league play against Damien of La Verne on Monday.

King found themselves down early in the game, a result of weakly hit balls that came from poor adjustment by the Wolves at the plate.  They struggled to get any offense going through four innings and headed into the 5th inning of the game down 2-1.  But there the Wolves rallied on a three-run shot out of the park by Esteban Nakashima in the top of the frame.

“Our boys fought back and stayed tough” said coach Steve Madril. “They were confident they could come back and competed well.”

Julian Castro earned the win throwing good ball for six innings, giving up 5 hits and recording 2 strikeouts.  Eddie Rivero and Gavin Shiflett both were strong at the plate, each hitting 2-4 on the day. The team adjusted well at the plate late in the game to keep their opponents off balance and striving to regain their earlier advantage.

As the momentum shifted in the favor of the Wolves and as they could sense a victory coming, Jonathan Ho quipped in the dugout, “Let’s go boys, we win we get a food stop!”

Madril must of smiled and he later remarked, “We can take away from this game the fact that even though we were down, the game is never over and we can come back.”

King’s record moved to 3-4 on the season as it turns toward the Big 8 League and a run at a title.  No matter where they ate on the way home, Madril’s hoping the boys stay hungry.
