RIVERSIDE: The inaugural season of Lacrosse (LAX) is off to a great start under the guidance of head coach Chris Kostka. On Thursday, March 2, they played their second game of the season against Roosevelt High Shool and earned the win.
“We started off strong, scoring 5 points in the first quarter.” Kostka said.
The team never looked back and went on to win 14-0.
CJ Kostka lead the team with 4 Goals while Ozzie Saucedo lead the team in assists. The Wolves’ defense and goalie, Berto Olea, were stingy, not allowing a point.
“We played as a team with unselfish play as we spread the ball around while we ran our offense” Kostka explained.
Given the fact that Lacrosse is relatively young as a sport in the Inland Empire, the Wolves are, like many teams, still striving to not just win, but learn the sport on the fly.
“We still have a long way to go as we are still very young in this sport with over 11 players on Varsity with just over 2 months of experience” Kostka said.
“However, these players are working hard and making huge strides each practice and each game. We need to keep working on the small things. We have a saying, “get better each and every day.” With the season just starting and 18 games still to play I’m so excited to see what our Lacrosse team will look like in 2 months.
King is even at 1 and 1 on the young season with another 18 games to go. Count on each of those games as valuable learning opportunities.
