Each year the Riverside County Department of Education honors high school teams across the county who have earned top GPA averages in the classroom for their season of sport.
The giving of such recognition is entirely fitting the King High School Athletic Department “PEAK” philosophy as well as the CIF motto of “Character Counts”.
The name of the award is the RIVERSIDE COUNTY ACADEMIC-ATHLETIC TEAM AWARD, and the athletes and coaches of the softball team and the boys track and field team were presented with the distinguished honor at a special session of the RUSD Board Meeting on Tuesday night. The programs are admirably led by Lucinda Brewer and John Corona respectively.
The softball team carried a cumulative GPA of 3.64. This is the fourth year in a row for the softball team and seventh time in school history. They were also honored in 2003, 2004, and 2005. The track and field team held a 3.44 cumulative GPA among the large team at the season’s end.
