RIVERSIDE: They started 0-2 against two of the top teams in the CIF, but Coach Becky Gagnon was aware that despite the losses, her group of players was learning with each contest and taking away nuggets of understanding that would be of value going forward.
With a second-straight win in the same week, this time against Vista Murrieta, those moments manifested themselves in the very way the seasoned head coach was hoping they would.
“We looked like a different team today!” Gagnon exclaimed. With doubles teams Vanessa Alvarran and Lexi Alvarez and Naneeta Desar and Sarah Naameh doing much to secure the 11-7 team score, Gagnon saw a team that “looked like a championship team. We got our confidence back, we were mentally tough and fought for every point.”
With a record that is now even at 2-2, the match against the Broncos seemed to underscore a truism in sports and education. “Keep the course, persevere and work hard and you’ll get positive results” Gagnon commented.
