PROFILE IN CHARACTER – ALLISON JANES

profile janes

Martin Luther King once said, “The ultimate measure of a person is not where he or she stands in moments of comfort … but where they stand in times of challenge and controversy.”

Powerful truth this is, an idea that gets straight to the heart of one’s character. When times get hard, what are you? Who are you?

Allison’s four years of running cross country have had more than a few moments of challenge.  Health issues, disappointments and injuries have made many of her days something less than comfort.  But through it all, Allison’s character has not wavered.  Today in her final campaign, she is who she was when she battled through a season long injury as a 9th grader. A fighter. Patient. Committed to team. Learning to be a leader. Gracious.

Though her four seasons haven’t been a trip down Easy Street, the way she’s traversed a road marked by challenge and difficulty has proved her character.  If Dr. King is right (and we think he is) the measure of Allison Janes is best done with the yardstick of integrity, grace and grit, which makes her a wonderful study in character.
